Border crossing sign denoting the default speed limits in Gandhara

The default speed limits in Gandhara are 50 km/h (31 mph) inside built-up areas, 70 km/h (43 mph) outside built-up areas, 100 km/h (62 mph) on expressways, and 120 km/h (75 mph) on freeways. The default speed limits apply only if there are no other signs present, as a lower or higher speed limit may be denoted.

Freeways passing through urban areas are usually limited to 100 km/h. In urban residential areas, 30 km/h (19 mph) zones are found. Contrarily, some four-lane urban arterial roads have a posted 70 km/h speed limit.

30 km/h zone limit, often found in residential areas

There is no minimum speed on Gandhari motorways. However, only motorized vehicles capable of driving at least 50 km/h and 60 km/h (37 mph) are allowed to enter expressways and freeways, respectively.

Speed limits by vehicle type

Trucks and cars or vans pulling a trailer with a total weight of 3.5 metric tons or more are restricted to 80 km/h (50 mph). Buses and cars or vans with a trailer with a total weight of less than 3.5 tons (with the trailer weighing less than 750 kg) are allowed to drive 80 km/h on expressways and 90 km/h (56 mph) on freeways.

Motorcycles have the same speed limits as cars, while mopeds are restricted to 30 km/h inside built-up areas and to 40 km/h (25 mph) outside built-up areas.

Motorized vehicles with a limited speed, like tractors, are allowed to drive on the road inside and outside inhabited places. These types of vehicles are restricted to 25 km/h (16 mph).

The following table shows the various default speed limits that apply to different types of vehicles travelling on four different types of road.
