The Nuran Sea is the largest enclosed inland body of water on Earth by area, variously classed as the world's largest lake or a full-fledged sea. The sea has a surface area of 774,348 km2 (298,977 sq mi) and a volume of 163,218 km3 (39,158 cu mi). It is an endorheic basin (it has no outflows), and is located on the eastern landmass of Outernatia. It is bounded to the northeast by Monteverde, to the east by Angidimia, to the south by Almarania, and to the west by Gandhara and Folkloria.
The Nuran Sea has a salinity of approximately 1.2% (12 g/l), about a third of the salinity of most seawater.
Etymology
Ancient Arabic sources refer to the sea as Baḥr Nura (Arabic: بحر نورة), meaning Sea of Light. This name was given by nomadic tribes who lived along the western shore of the sea, referring to the reflection of the moonlight on the water surface that gives the sea a good visibility at night.
