The national flag of Gandhara (Arabic: علم الوطني من غانذارا) has a field of nine equal horizontal stripes, alternating green and black, and a white triangle at the hoist with an emblem of the Sun and four five-pointed stars. The flag proportions (width:length) are 3:5.
Symbolism
The colors green, black, and white are three of the four Pan-Arab colors. The five green stripes symbolize the Five Pillars of Islam, while the four black stripes stand for the four sacred months of the Islamic calendar. The white triangle stands for the unity of the Arab nation.
The color gold of the emblem stands for optimism and hope. The Sun with the four five-pointed stars is an important symbol in Gandhari mythology. The Sun is being interpreted as typifying the 'glory of religion', and the four five-pointed stars are believed to symbolize the four archangels in Islam: Jibrāīl (Gabriel), Mīkāīl (Michael), Izrāʾīl (Azrael), and Isrāfīl (Raphael).
Design
The current national flag was adopted by the provisional government of Gandhara after the Gandhari Revolution in 1957. The official specifications were set out in the Presidential Decree "On the National Flag of the Arab Republic of Gandhara" issued on 13 March 1958.
Construction
The official aspect ratio of the flag is 3:5. The height of the green and black horizontal stripes are each 1/9 of the flag's height, and the apex of the isosceles triangle is located at 1/3 of the length of the flag.
The diameter of the emblem of the Sun is 1/5 of the length of the flag. The center of the Sun is located in the middle of the flag's height, and the distance between the hoist side and the center of the Sun is 1/9 of the flag's length.
The four stars are pointed towards the center of the Sun. The diameter of each star is 13/72 of the diameter of the Sun, and the distance between the center of the Sun and the center of each star is 5/8 of the Sun's diameter.
Colors
The colors of the flag are defined by presidential decree as Moderate malachite green, Black, and White. The color gold of the emblem of the Sun and the four five-pointed stars is defined as Luminous vivid gold. The exact matches are as follows:

Former flags
During the Al-Mansur era, the flag of Gandhara was dark green with a white circle featuring in light green an Arabic inscription. The inscription is the Arabic word for God, Allah. The diameter of the white circle was 2/3 of the flag's width, and the distance between the hoist side and the circle was 1/9 of the flag's length.
Following the Gandhari Revolution, the Interim Government of Gandhara used the flag of the Arab Socialist Union as official national flag until 17 October 1957, when the modern Gandhari flag was adopted.
