The President of the Arab Republic of Gandhara (Arabic: رئيس جمهورية غانذارا العربية‎) is the head of state of Gandhara. Under the Constitution of Gandhara, the president is also the supreme commander of the armed forces and head of the executive branch of the Gandhari government.

Selection process

Eligibility

The Constitution of Gandhara allows the president to run for a 7-year term, which can be renewed once as of the 1990 revision of the Constitution. The conditions required to be candidate at the presidential election are the following:

  1. A candidate must have the support of no less than 35 members of the National Assembly.
  2. A candidate must be 34 years old or older.
  3. A candidate must have permanently resided in Gandhara for at least 10 years before the election.
  4. A candidate must be Gandhari by birth, of parents who are Gandhari by birth.

Election

The president is directly elected by universal suffrage by Gandhari citizens who are 18 years and over. The Presidential Election Commission is charged with the supervision of the presidential election process, and is presided by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Per the Constitution, regular presidential elections are scheduled to be held within 90 days before the incumbent president's end of term. If the president's authority has ended pre-term, the elections must be held within 90 days of the president's end of term.

Inauguration

Inauguration of the president is conducted on the first Saturday of September of the seventh year of the incumbent president's term. If the president was elected in early elections, he takes the oath, 30 days after the announcement of the results.
