The license plate is rectangular in shape and made of [[Wikipedia:Aluminium|aluminium]]. On the left, there is a 4×10 cm blue stripe with the [[Flag of Gandhara|national flag]] and the [[List of ISO A3 country codes|country code]] "GAN". License plates for private vehicles have black characters on a white background. The white field in the middle contains the first part of the plate number, and the square on the right hand side contains the name of the [[Governorates of Gandhara|Gandhari governorate]] where the car is registered in [[Wikipedia:Arabic|Arabic]] and the regional code. Every governorate has its own regional code. On all vehicles two plates have to be present, one in front and the other in rear, except on motorcycles and tractors.
