Tikata is made up of eight states, colloquially called Tikatlander, for "federated state"), which are partly sovereign constituent states of the Federal Kingdom of Tikata. The institution of the Federal Kingdom of Tikata was estaablished in 1872 after Second Union with Kingdom of Surmetia.

Federalism is one of the entrenched principles of the Federal Kingdom as established in the Basic Law.

States

The use of the term State dates back to the Constitution of 1801. Before this time, the constituent states of the Tikata were called Lands. Today, it is very common to use the term Tikatlander. However, this term is not used officially, neither by the constitution of 1801 nor by the Basic Law of 1872.
