History
When king Ferdinand III was defeated by the Kingdom of Tikata in 1695, San Remo became a Land of Tikata. The yellow, orange, green tricolour flag of the Kingdom of San Remo was replaced by a new flag.
In 1814 San Remo became an independent island country. The newly formed government decided to adopt a new flag that reflects the history of the country. Different designs were made and the final design was officially adopted on 17 February 1814. The design and the symbolism of the new flag are defined in the constitution of 1815.
