The license plate is rectangular in shape and made of [[Wikipedia:Aluminium|aluminium]]. On the left, there is a 4×10 cm green stripe with the symbol found on the [[Flag of Gandhara|flag of Gandhara]], the name of Gandhara written in [[Wikipedia:Arabic_language|Arabic]] (غانذارا) and the country code "GA" in [[Wikipedia:Latin_script|Latin script]]. The plate number is for private vehicles in black characters on a white background. The white field in the middle contains the first part of the plate number and the square on the right hand side contains at the top the name of the Gandhari [[Wikipedia:Governorate|governorate]] where the car is from in Arabic and below the regional code. On all vehicles two plates have to be present, one in front and the other in rear, except on motorcycles and tractors.

Vehicle registration plates of Gandhara are used for official identification purposes for Gandhari motor vehicles.

License plates for private vehicles have black characters on a white background, with the national flag and the two-digit country code GA on the left. The two-digit regional code is located on the square on the right hand side and the rest of the plate follows the format NNNLLL, where N is a Western Arabic numeral and L is a letter in the Perso-Arabic script.
