It has a population of around 3.3 million people and its territory covers 50,218 km² (19,389 sq mi).
Etymology

Politics and government
There were already expeditions to Diyafa in the 19th century. The first attempt to explore the islands was in 1857. In 1887, the first settlements were build, which served as trading points for international trade and a source of food for ships travelling past the islands.
