Grolskira is one of eight countries that participated in the very first Internatia Song Contest edition and one of two countries that participate in every edition of ISC.
History
Early editions (2011-2013)
In the beginning of ISC's one more revival, Grolskira somehow managed to join with their Holy Ruler being just 12 years old. So that the music taste of Grolskiric people was more experienced to rotate around pop music as heard from other popular musical contests with real life countries. And so it showed mostly throughout their first 3 'years' in ISC (basically 1 full edition in 2011, 5 in 2012 and all 12 in 2013). The nation started out with hosting a national final they thought they'd consider it their definite one when it came to choose their entries - Lakmosoja y Lakma ("Sing the song" in Grolskiric). The project went well, with a few ups and downs and not much of information about their songs that were put there being noted down to the public eye, at least voting wise. They did bad at their humble beginnings ("22" would've placed second last if it wasn't for Tashkveny not voting, however "Timebomb" and "Club Rocker" tanked heavier than that because it involved more nations that seem to be tired of this stereotypic modern pop sound attractive to Europeans) but at the time more genres were introduced in their national finals, they seemed to recover bit by bit (their first proper top 10 result happened with a rock entry, "So still", actually suggested by their friends from Spirevo, and an edition after, Grolskira finally got a "medal" position by ranking 3rd with "Tri martolod" - a popular folk song sung in Breton and covered by Nolwenn Leroy, and after her success Nolvena became a legit name of one of Grolskiric cities in the future), although not much ("Primadonna" and "Paparazzi", the first ISC's K-pop song, didn't fare as well, probably because of being poppier), but still. Then semifinals came to ISC and it turned out a big rollercoaster ride for the nation entire. Grolskira still kinda leaned to send somewhat popular songs ("Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You), their ISC 9 entry, narrowly qualified to the final, and even if not obtained a great result, Grolskirics are still kind of proud by solely making it, and regarded ISC 9 as an actual goldmine to Grolskiric taste that developed for years to come), but they didn't really do much for the nation since ISC 12 to ISC 16, nor did the rockier sound that Grolskira sent throughout this longest non-qualification period the nation's ever had (particularly ISC 12 and ISC 14-16 had some electric guitar work in them). And after that they managed to qualify for 4 editions straight, as in ISC 17 they were welcoming more countries to help them choose a great ISC entry via Lakmosoja y Lakma 17, which involved all the states choosing their own representatives for this selection only; then, for the next edition, Grolskira joined forces with Aonach to make a joint national final - first one for Grolskira - and even if it didn't bring great results out for Aonach (their first non-qualification), Grolskiric broadcaster GLTV was really proud of having a chance to co-operate with RTVRA, Aonach's national broadcaster. 2013 ended up even nicer for Grolskira as Brooke Fraser, the nation's representative at the time, had a great birthday, qualified and placed top 5.
Taste formations (2014)
2014 changed Grolskira up a lot with ISC 19 happening, which seemed a really great one because Grolskira placed 2nd, eventhough the Lakmosoja y Lakma 19 winner proved to be controversial in both Natalia Kills losing it and a past winner of ISC's rival competition already taking a trophy. ISC 19 also gave the nation a new band to obsess with - Muse - which represented Symphony Isles at the time and place 9th in the edition. And eventhough 2014 as a whole seemed to be a bit of a downer for Grolskira entrywise (unexpected qualification in ISC 20 with a hopeless song that finally won its NF after not being chosen a lot previously but that one did poorly in the final; surprising nonqualification that could've been a qualification had the nation voted a little differently by not screwing themselves over in ISC 21 (with one of very favourite songs of the Holy Ruler's herself's), first IJ qualification in ISC 22 with a bit of a hopeless song as well that won for the nation in Kosmallán's national final festival, qualification mostly due to 3 nations that might've qualified not voting in ISC 23, victory hopes not being satisfied in ISC 24, Muse's unglorious ISC re-entrance due to a really not appealing song in ISC 25, Lakmosoja y Lakma 21 winner that was postponed to ISC 26 due to an injured leg in between bombings of HKJIADH that happened in her quasi-native Amsteris, and four more non-qualifications in a row by the end of the year (with progressive house in ISC 27, a little bit more abrasive punk pop-rock in ISC 28, electronic music performed by a band that has a past Grolskiric entrant as the lead singer in it in ISC 29 and with a folk song that the nation wanted to see winning in ISC 30), the citizens seemed to be happy about participating nevertheless as many cool entries have been sent through the year 2014 and many great discoveries for their taste buds were made.
Saint Lu, Woodkid and Dom Howard (Semifinal 1) Miss Montreal, Brooke Fraser and Chris Wolstenholme (Semifinal 2) Lily Allen, Dan Smith and Matt Bellamy (Final)
GLTV & GrolSat sometimes volunteer to pick songs for other nations, whether themselves or getting asked to. Below is a list of songs that were picked by them:
Alteus 34 was technically a Grolskiric suggestion, but it had to go through a national final elimination.
When it comes to viceversa, Grolskira was once offered to send a song that KIRT, the national broadcaster of Kaeros Islands, suggested to them, but having other plans at the same time, GLTV & GrolSat refused to go with it. However, another time after, in probable return of the ISC 34 favour, BovineTV of Alteus sent a song in the inbox of both Grolskiric broadcasters as a suggestion and they went with it right on ISC 40. Other suggested entries include ISC 4 (by Spirevo, had to go through a national final) and ISC 38 (by V (now Bitland), can't really be counted due to its initial schedule being set on ISC 39 but when the ISC 38 entry got sent to ISC 37 by Dulcet Ebullience, the slot opened up a little earlier for the song to be showcased off, and quite a lot of Grolskiric people call that decision actually decent, especially after what came next).
