The national flag of San Remo (Spanish: Bandera de San Remo; Portuguese: Bandeira de Sanremo) has a field of nine equal horizontal stripes, alternating yellow and green, and a white triangle at the hoist with a symbol of the sun. The sun has 16 straight and 16 waved sunbeams. The flag proportions (width:length) are 2:3.

Symbolism and design

A law defined the colours of the flag as Brilliant gold, Moderate malachite green and Light gray. The colours of the symbol are defined as Vivid yellow and Strong orange. The exact matches are as follows:

The colours of the flag were intended to symbolize the following: the yellow colour is the national colour and stands for the sun, but also for optimism and pleasure, the green stands for hope and the white stands for a new beginning.

The yellow stripes symbolize the Spanish speaking departments, while the green stripes symbolize the Portuguese speaking departments. The white triangle is a symbol for the unity between the Spanish and the Portuguese part of the country. The symbol of the sun is an old Amadoran symbol that represents the origins of the country (the former Kingdom of Amadora and the city of Sanremo have played an important role in the history of San Remo).
