By longstanding convention, MIchael II has to sign every piece of legislation before it becomes law. As King, his main tasks are to represent the Kingdom abroad and to be a unifying figurehead at home. He receive foreign ambassadors and award honours and medals. He performs the latter task by accepting invitations to open exhibitions, attending anniversaries, inaugurating bridges, etc. Michael II is rarely quoted directly in the press since the government information service made it a condition of interviews that he may not be quoted. He succeeded to the throne of Tikata upon the death of his grandfather Ferdinand V on 16 May 1977. The son of the then-heir to throne, Alexander, Duke of Surmetia and of Catherina de Frisen, Michael was born at the Royal Residence in Madakia.

Upon his accession on 16 May 1977, Michael became Head of the Commonwealth and king of four independent Commonwealth countries: Tikata, Merusia, New South Dasimia, Lori Islands and Percheron. Today, in addition to the four of the aforementioned countries, Michael is King of Dasija and Lori Islands.

Michael was born in Madakia and educated privately at home. In 1980, he married Countess Cecilia van Groos, with whom he has four children: Ferdinand, Frederick, Anna Maria, and Tatiana.
