Tashkveny, officialy the Commonwealth of Tashkveny (French: Le Commonwealth de Tashkveny; Scots Gaelic: Co-fhlaitheas na h-Taghan) is a sovereign state located in southern Internatia. Its mainland is bordered by Grolskira to the east, the Democratic People's Republic of Jindalea to the south. By sea, Tashkveny has borders with Volnytaria and Holy Kim Jong-Il's After Death Hangug to the north and Kosma and the 1-30 Regions of Sockistan to the east.
Tashkveny is well known as the most populous state within Internatia, with a population of over 154 million inhabitants, the majority living the industrious north of the country. The capital, Invertulloch (also the largest city), is the most populous, with 11 million living within the city proper. The population of the country is mainly focused along the coasts and rivers of the nation.
History
Tashkveny has been inhabited for over 1000 years, with the native Tashkens inhabiting the land. The country recieved its name from the native name of the land, Tashkvena, meaning "Resting place", in native Tashken. However, between 1636 and 1645, 5 countries colinized the area: Denmark, England, France, Scotland and Spain. It would be Denmark who would retain control after 1645, and for 53 years, the area was under Danish control. This would change, after the Spanish Uprising, in which the Spanish inhabitiants of the colony revolted against Danish rule. Tashkveny came under the control of the Spanish crown during this year, and would remain so for 45 years. During the Pyrenees War, which lasted 2 years, between 1741 and 1743, the losing country, Spain, had to cede land to France, choosing to give Tashkveny to the French. For 91 years, the French controlled Tashkveny, and its population boomed, from 126,000 in 1743, to 3 million in 1835. A further war between France and the now-United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland would once again move sovereignty of Tashkveny. Now a part of the British Empire, the citizens of the country saw a boom in trade and an Industrial Revolution followed. The population would increase from 3 million to 64 million in the 97 years in which the United Kindgdom controlled the country, due to immigration from various countries, including Spain and Denmark, due to the pre-existing population from those countries residing in Tashkveny.
Tashkveny would be granted independence on November 13, 1932, as the Kingdom of Tashkveny, with the country sharing the Monarch with the countries of the Commonwealth. A growing discontent with the Monarchy in Tashkveny, along with a rising, radical left-wing movement growing amongst the poorest in Tashken society, led to the First Tashken Revolution, in which the army overthrew the democratically-elected government and established the People's Republic of Tashkveny on May 1, 1940, with the Communist Party of Tashkveny being the only political party in the country. Through the use of intimidation and fear, the dictatorship, led by General Brouchard, lasted 50 years, until the Second Tashken Revolution, to overthrow the communist dictatorship.
The present state, the Commonwealth of Tashkveny, was established on September 1, 1990, after 50 years of one-party rule. The first democratic elections led to the Democratic Party's first win. Introducing sweeping reforms during its first term, the country, and those within it, had their lives dramatically changed and would make Tashkveny one of the world's most democratic states.
The Tashken Oil Fields, located in the North-West and South-East of the country, provide huge wealth for Tashkveny, and the Petroleum and Oil industries provide around 25% of the Tashken economy. Tourism, Manufacturing and various other methods provide for the rest of the economic input to Tashkveny, which sees it being one of the richest nations in its area.
The current party in power is the Liberal Party, with President Donald Lombard overseeing the state, and Prime Minister Heather Morrison overseeing the government.
Media
Tashkveny's first broadcaster was established during British rule. The TBC (Tashken Broadcasting Corporation) began broadcasting over radio on May 3, 1927, and began television broadcasts on December 1, 1936. The Corporation had 3 radio channels, and three television channels, originally broadcasting in three languages: English, French and Gaelic, with each of the three channels broadcasting exclusively in that language.
During the communist years, things remained the same, although the media was tightly censored to make sure that the people only knew what the government wanted them to.
During the Commonwealth, independent media thrived, and now CTV (Capital Television), NBC (National Broadcasting Company) and TNT (Tashkveny National Television) all have channels broadcasting throughout the nation. Of these, TBC and NBC are members of the IBU.
