Air Nura (Arabic: نورة للطيران, Nura liṭ-Ṭayarān), legally Air Nura S.M.M., is a Gandhari low-cost airline and a wholly owned subsidiary of Gandhara Airways. Its main base is Rhea International Airport with further bases at Ahmed Assiri International Airport, Araz Airport, Kazmi Airport, and Maslamah Airport.

Air Nura maintains Air Nura Tikata as its Tikatan subsidiary.

History

In the early 1990s, there were plans within Gandhara Airways, Gandhara's flag carrier airline, to set up a low-cost department that could compete with other airlines in the Gandhari holiday market. However, these plans never realized. Instead, Air Nura was established as a completely new airline on 19 November 1996.

The airline was headquartered in Kazmi, and began its operations in May 1997 with services from Kazmi, Manas, and Rhea to Hugo Chávez City, Nordfjord, and Solitude. Air Nura grew rapidly during the early years, and new destinations were added.

Gandhara Airways took an initial 23,5% stake in Air Nura, increasing it to 48% in 2001. The rest of the shares were held by institutional investors and private individuals. Gandhara Airways acquired the remaining stakes and assumed complete ownership in 2004. After the takeover, Air Nura moved its headquarters from Kazmi to Rhea.

Air Nura set up a Tikatan subsidiary, Air Nura Tikata, in 2010. The airline and its subsidiary exclusively operate Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft. Under Gandhara Airways, Air Nura has developed into a strong brand, operating under its own identity and corporate design.

Destinations

As of December 2019, Air Nura serves 119 destinations: 107 in Outernatia and 12 in Internatia. Several new destinations are added each year.

Air Nura flies in a point to point model rather than the more traditional airline hub and spoke model where the passengers have to change aircraft in transit at a major airport.
