Laranjeiras (Laranjeirian: Laranjeiras, Portuguese: Laranjeiras), officially the Laranjeirian Confederation is a country in the southwestern part of Outernatia. Covering a territory of 961,907 km km² it is among the biggest countries on the continent, bordering Auspikitan to the north, Ponásikwa to the northeast, Timivar to the southwest and Marvelia in the southeast. To the west lies the Western Ocean. Its capital is Pomar. It is divided into 13 regions and a confederational district. As of 2014, the population of Laranjeiras accounts for 200,004,000 people.

The Laranjeirian statehood dates back to the 3th century with the Sulorian Confederation,that now corresponds to the countries of Laranjeiras and Hanzyuki. After a long past of alliance, Laranjeiras and Hanzyuki,along with some other countries created the Sulorian Confederation, a personal union between the two states, which became a major political factor in Internatia up until the 20th century. In the late 21th century, after a civil war, the Confederation was partitioned between Republic of Hanzyuki and the Confederative Republic of Laranjeiras.

Now, Laranjeiras has a very high-income market economy, and scores "very high" on the Human Development Index. The abundance of natural resource,the rapidly growing economy and the very high HDI make some scholars to refer to Laranjeiras as a "Southwest Giant". It is a founding member of the Council of Outernatia.

Etymology

The etymology is unknow. Some investigators says that the country's name derives from the first family that ruled the kingdom,the Laranjeira Family. But, some say that this name comes from the orange (laranja,in portuguese) orchard that exists in the city of Pomar. Though the first theory is the most accepted,the second one makes sense too.

History

Sulorian Confederacy

The 5 kings who founded the Sulorian Confederacy.

At the beginning of the third century before christ, due to the crescent invasion made by the barbarians, several independent kingdoms decided to establish a confederation to protect themselves from the invasion. By doing this, the kings from Nequalia,Teles,Sofós,Laranjeiras and Hanzyuki founded the Sulorian Confederation, a kingdom with 5 autonomous regions but with a unified army and power.

Sulorian Civil War

In 1867, another country decided to join the Sulorian Confederacy, the Republic of Javland. That country showed to be problematic since the very beggining, but in 1907, the javlandian representant declared war on the Confederacy, resulting in a civil war that destroyed most of the Sulorian major cities, including Pomar. Finally,in 1914, the coalition formed by Laranjeiras, Hanzyuki, Nequalia, Teles and Sofós won over Javland.

Sulorian Dismantle and Laranjeiras' independence

Even after the Javland was defeated in the Sulorian Civil War, the Confederacy fell into a deep economic and social crisis, leading to several separatist movements and, finally, the Sulorian Confederacy was dismantled in 1920. In the first twenty years of independence, Laranjeiras experienced a military dictatorship that was marked by the quick industrialization of the country, but lack of liberty. After several social movements, an election were held in Pomar, electing Eliseu Laranjeira, a powerful and rich descendent from the Laranjeira family, the family who founded the country but was sentenced to exile in Percheron by the Military Junta in the dictatorship years.

Actually, Laranjeiras is a democratic kingdom with a constitutional monarchy regime. Due to the politics that the Laranjeira family implanted, the country experienced a quick development in the economic, social and politic departments. Now, the country has one of the best HDI in the whole Outernatia, a strong economy and a stable government that cares about healthcare, education and liberty of it people.

Administrative divisions

The Laranjeirian Kingdom is divided in 3 levels: confederal government, provincial government and municipal government. The municipalities and provincies have the autonomy to make new laws, but it cannot go against what the confederal government determines. Laranjeiras has 13 provincies and an confederal district. Each municipalitie has only one city inside of it. The laranjeirian capital Pomar is located at the DC Pomar, being also the largest city of the country. All the embassies stays, by law, at Pomar, but the consulates may be constructed in any city.
