Raingate (Japanese: 雨門, Amemon), officially the Principality of Raingate (Japanese: 雨門公国, Amemon Kōkuni), is a sovereign state located within the eastern landmass of Outernatia. It is bordered by Lettuce in the north, Gandhara in the east, Háttųka and Frostfall in the south and by the Artemitic Sea in the west. It has a population of around 10.5 million people making it the 11th most populous country in Outernatia, and it has an area spanning 26,1625 kilometres squared. It is a founding member of the Outernatian Union.

Raingate consists of 11 provinces; Princeland, Sunshine Coast, Florem, Cambria, The Vale, Whiterun, Blackreach, Winterhold, High Rock, The Rift and the island territory of Dawnguard & Duskfall. Its capital city Solitude is located in Princeland and is one of the most urbanised cities in western Outernatia. The current Raingatian monarch is Prince Louis Tomlinson.

Politics

Raingate is sovereign state run under a constitutional monarchy. Prince Louis Tomlinson is the head of state of Raingate and is joined by his husband Prince Harry Tomlinson. The monarch has "the right to be consulted, the right to encourage, and the right to warn".

Raingate has a parliamentary government know as The Order and it meets in the Royal Chambers of Solitude, Princeland. All bills passed are given Royal Assent before becoming law.

The position of prime minister, Raingate's head of government, belongs to the person most likely to command the confidence of The Order; this individual is typically the leader of the political party or coalition of parties that holds the largest number of seats in The Order. The prime minister chooses 9 members within the Order to form a High Order and appoints them as a leader of one of the 11 provinces. By convention, the prime minister is always the leader of Princeland Province. The prime minister and the 10 leaders within the High Order are formally appointed by the monarch to form the government of Raingate. Conventionally, the Prince respects the prime minister's decisions of government and has rarely overruled laws passed through the houses.

The High Order are traditionally drawn from members of the prime minister's party. Executive power is exercised by the prime minister and leaders. The current Prime Minister is Karren Brady, who has been in office since Raingate's first general election on the 1 August 2015. Brady is the leader of the Labour and Liberal Alliance Party. For general elections, the people of each province vote for which party and party leader they would like to govern Raingate. The party with the most votes in a province wins a majority for that province. The party with the most provincial majorities then wins the general election and is sworn into power. For elections to The Order, the 11 provinces each elect a number of members of parliament who are then elected to represent that province within the house by simple plurality. General elections are called by the monarch when the prime minister so advises. The Parliament Act 2015 requires that a new election must be called no later than 5 years after the previous elections.

The Labour and Liberal Alliance Party is Raingate's main political party and represents the Raingatian traditions of socialism and social liberalism. Other main parties include The Liberal Democratic Party, the Green Party, the Raingate National Party and the Asian Front.

Political System

Legislative power is vested in the Parliament of Raingate which consists of 51 members; the prime minister, the 11 leaders of the High Order and the 41 members of The Order. Majority approval from both Orders is needed to pass legislation.

The members of the The Order are elected every 5 years. The 41-seat Order is elected directly through the proportional representation system whereby each province elects a set number of members to represent them in the Order. The number of members representing a province is determined by the population within that province. For example, the most populous province of Princeland has 5 members in the Order, while the least populous provinces of The Rift and Dawnguard & Duskfall has 2 and 1 representatives in the Order respectively.

Following the most recent general election in July 2015, the current prime minister is Karren Brady of the Labour and Liberal Alliance Party. The majority of The Order is made up of members from this party.

Demographics

Administrative divisions

Raingate is divided into 11 provinces each governed by a leader, who is appointed through the mutual agreement between the Price and prime minister of Raingate. Each province is run by local governments which are in turn governed by the Parliament of Raingate in Solitude. These local governments work on local matters within their province and serve as intermediaries between the main parliament province leaders.

Geography

Raingate is located on the eastern coast of Outernatia and covers an area spanning 261,625km2 (101,014 sq mi). The landscape in the eastern coastal areas and in the south is fairly low-lying whereas the north and west of the region is dominated by mountain ranges and central areas

Climate

Raingate has a temperate climate, with plentiful rainfall all year round. The temperature varies with the seasons and rarely drops below −15 °C or rises above 35 °C. The prevailing wind is from the west and brings frequent spells of mild and wet weather from the Ocean, although the eastern parts, particularly High Rock and The Rift provinces, are mostly sheltered from this wind due to the majority of the rain falling over the western provinces; the eastern parts are therefore the driest. Continental windstreams however bring hot summers and mild winters to the western provinces of Sunshine Coast, Florem and Cambria. Whereas these windstreams bring milder summers and colder winters to the eastern provinces of Winterhold, High Rock and The Rift. High Rock is particularly prone to significantly cold winters due to the mountainous terrain shielding the warmer oceanic wind streams. Summers are warmest in the south-east of Raingate, particularly in the provinces of Sunshine Coast and Florem, the former of which is a popular tourist destination. Heavy snowfall can occur in winter and early spring on high ground, and occasionally settles to great depth away from the hills. Winterhold province is notorious in regards to fallen snow taking an excessive amount of time to clear due to the provinces expansive and low lying ground.

Seasons

Spring

Spring is generally a calm, cool and dry season, particularly because the Artemitic Sea has lost much of its heat throughout the autumn and winter. However, as the sun rises higher in the sky and the days get longer, temperatures can rise relatively high, but often tend to drop off again at night due to the cool oceans and the warm weather dependent solely on the sun. Thunderstorms and heavy showers develop quite frequently, particularly towards the end of the season.

There is a fair chance of snow earlier in the season when temperatures are colder. Some of the country's heaviest snowfalls of recent years have happened in the first half of March and snow showers can occur infrequently until mid-April. They have been known to develop as late as mid-May over some areas of the country, such as in parts of Winterhold and High Rock Provinces.

Mean temperatures in Spring are markedly influenced by latitude. Most of Winterhold and the mountains of High Rock and The Rift are the coolest areas of Raingate, with average temperatures ranging from −2 to 7°C. The western half of Raingate experiences the warmest spring temperatures of between 8 and 13°C.

Summer

Summer is the warmest and usually the sunniest season. Rainfall totals can have a wide local variation due to localised thunderstorms. These thunderstorms mainly occur in western and central Raingate and are less frequent and severe in the north and west. Rainy weather systems are not as severe in summer but increase both in severity and frequency towards the end of the season.

Climatic differences at this time of year are more influenced by latitude and temperatures are highest in western and southern areas and lowest in the east. Summer temperatures rarely exceed 39°C, but when this does occur it happens more frequently in Sunshine Coast and Florem than other parts of the country. Winterhold and High Rock have the coolest summers (average means: 10 to 17°C, while central areas such as Princeland and The Vale have warmer summers (average means: 18 to 21°C), and Sunshine Coast and Florem have the hottest summers (average means: 23 to 31°C). The record maximum is 41°C recorded in Azure Bay, Sunshine Coast.

Autumn

Autumn in Raingate is notorious for being unsettled as cool air moves northwards combining with the warm ocean air due to heating throughout the spring and summer, resulting in unsettled weather. In addition, when the air is particularly cold temperatures on land may be colder than the ocean, resulting in significant amounts of condensation and clouds which bring heavy rain to the country.

Oceanic depressions during this time can become intense and winds of hurricane force can be recorded. Western areas, being closest to the ocean, experience these severe conditions to a significantly greater extent than eastern areas. As such, autumn is often the stormiest time of the year.

Coastal areas of Sunshine Coast and the western half of Cambria have on average the warmest autumns, with mean temperatures of 10 to 15°C. Mountainous areas of Winterhold and The Rift, and almost all of High Rock, experience mean temperatures between 3 and 7C.

Winter

Winter in Raingate is generally cool, wet and windy. Temperatures at night rarely drop below −15°C and in the day rarely rise above 11°C. Precipitation is plentiful throughout the season, though snow is relatively infrequent despite the country's varying latitude: The only areas with significant snowfall are in High Rock and The Rift, where at higher elevations a colder climate determines the occurence of snowfall. For a majority of the landmass snow is possible but not frequent, apart from the higher altitudes, where snow can lie 1–5 months or even beyond 6 months.

Snow falls intermittently and mainly affects eastern areas, high ground in Whiterun and Blackreach and especially the mountains of High Rock where the amount of lying snow is frequently high enough to permit winter sport activities. Frequently in the mountains potent depressions may move in from the south in the form of 'polar lows', introducing heavy snow and often blizzard-like conditions to parts of Raingate, particularly eastern areas. During periods of light winds and high pressure frost and fog can become a problem and can pose a major hazard for drivers on the roads.

Mean winter temperatures in the Raingate are most influenced by proximity to the sea. The coldest areas are the mountains of High Rock and The Rift, and eastern areas of Winterhold, averaging −10 to 3°C. Coastal areas in Sunshine Coast and Cambria, as well as Florem, experience the mildest winters, on average 5 to 8°C. The record low is -36°C recorded on Death Mountain, High Rock.

Economy

Transport

A radial road network totals 29,145 miles of main roads, 2,173 miles of motorways and 213,750 miles of paved roads. The R1, encircling Solitude, is one of the largest and busiest bypass systems in the world.

Raingate has a railway network of 10,072 miles. Raingate Rail owns and manages all the infrastructure of the rail network as well as operating passenger trains that carry over 12,000 passenger trains daily. There are also some 1,000 freight trains in daily operation. The Eastern Metro is considered to be one of the most expansive metro systems in the world as is covers an area that serves the provinces of Princeland, Sunshine Coast, Florem and Cambria. The Overground Rail network covers the majority of the country and serves all major towns and cities.

The three largest airports in Raingate are Solitude Airport, McQueen Airport and Azure Bay Airport. Solitude International Airport, located 15 miles east of the capital, has the most international passenger traffic of any airport in the Eastern Outernaian mainland and is the hub for the Raingate flag carrier Raingate Airways.
