National Final

SealTV started a new national final featuring a duel system. The song that won would represent Saint Eva & Lepland at ISC 17, whereas the losing song would go on to the next duel (unless it had already lost three duels, or failed to get any votes). Nine countries voted in the first duel; for the first time Saint Eva & Lepland's vote did not count towards the final result, but would instead be used as a tiebreaker if necessary.

Viewing Figures

Viewing figures released by SealTV indicated that only 4000 people viewed the ISC final, the lowest figure on record for any Internatia Song Contest final (except for the unbroadcast ISC 11 final). Viewing figures had been declining since ISC 12.

Following the announcement, SealTV successfully negotiated a lower entrance fee for future ISC events.

Voting Discrepancies

Two months after the ISC 17 results, it was discovered that the Spirevan votes for the first semi-final had been incorrectly tallied. After they were corrected, it emerged that Tashkveny should have qualified to the final instead of Saint Eva & Lepland.
